About Dhaka University Dhaka University is the one of the best University in Bangladesh. It has a long influential history. History of Bangladesh and history of Dhaka University goes alone. It makes history all the time. Once it was called Oxford of South East Asia. It has various faces. It play a big roll in the every aspect of Bangladesh society, culture and politics of the region. It is a political play ground of Bangladesh. Sometime it brings good things for the university or over all country like 1969, our freedom fight 1971, fight for our mother tongue 21 February, and memorable 1991. Sometimes all these political issue makes only "Sassoon Gem". I know most of you are not familiar with this new vocabulary. But I believe this is the only draw back of the educational; system of Bangladesh. Only in Bangladesh all of a sudden educational institute get close month after month based on political reasons with or without an issue. But it is still the best institute there .This University provide it's student various facilities. Before going there let me give you a brief review about this University. Dhaka University began with 192 students and 3 faculties in July 1st, 1921.The current Emergency Building of Dhaka Medical College was the Main building of the University. P. J. Hartog was the first Vice Chancellor and the first Registrar was Khan Bahadur Nazir Uddin Ahmad. The total area of Dhaka University is 250.50 Acres. At the beginning there were 60 professors. Institute: The institutes are the constituent schools of the university with separate governing bodies. They function under the executive and academic control of the University. There are eight institutes under Dhaka University:
Ph. D and D. Sc. Theses and Degrees: The scholar-teachers of the University encouraged research actives among the teacher and students. The University provided all facilities for research work. As a result, many students and teachers enrolled themselves for research degrees in the University. Study Leave for Higher Education: With a view to help the teachers to increase their efficiency in teaching and research, the Dhaka University authorities provided them with facilities for higher education in foreign Universities. Every year several teachers were given study leave. This facility enabled many teachers of this University to get higher education and obtained research degrees from the Universities of the United Kingdom and other European countries.
